This guided safari offers you the perfect opportunity to experience Namibias remote northwest. Encounter Namibias desert adapted elephants, as well as the threatened black rhino in the 5500 km² private concession area of Palmwag Lodge, the mighty Kunene river and its spectacular Epupa waterfalls and the nomadic cultural Ovahimbas in the scenic Kaokoveld. The tour ends with a two nights‘ stay at the private Ongava Game Reserve on the southern edge of the famous Etosha National Park. Enjoy game drives within the National Park, as well as within the private reserve before returning back via Okahandja to Windhoek.

Departure from Grootberg Lodge (or similar) into central Kaokoland, over the notorious van Zyl’s Pass into the Marien-River Valley. Meet the Ovahimba and get acquainted with their ancient customs and traditional way of life. Explore the Hartmann Valley during your two nights’ stay at the luxurious Serra Cafema Camp. The return trip traverses the eastern border of the Skeleton Coast via the Hoarusib and the Hoanib River to the Grootberg Lodge (or similar).

Departure from Grootberg Lodge (or similar) via Sesfontein to a number of Ovahimba settlements in the Kaokoland and to the Epupa Waterfalls on the mighty Kunene River. Enjoy overnight camping on the banks of the magical waterfalls and day time walks to explore the surroundings. Return to Grootberg Lodge (or similar) on day four via Fort Sesfontein.

Due to the annual rains the routing for this safari has to be altered as most of the dry rivers flood, and some roads become impossible to drive on. The following itinerary is an indication of the route which will be followed during the rainy season, but will be subject to change without prior notice, depending on road and weather conditions.

Depart from Grootberg Lodge (or similar) in the early morning. The next four days will be spent tracking down the famous desert elephant as well as the threatened black rhino in the 5000 km² private concession area of Palmwag Lodge. From there, the routing follows into the Hoarusib River, where there are good opportunities to encounter the desert adapted elephant and lion. We also visit a Himba village. Your return journey takes you through Fort Sesfontein towards Grootberg Lodge (or similar) to overnight and relax after these breathtaking experiences.
