Our tented camp Ozondjou Trails has been operational since September 2016 and is situatedin the Ugab River. Ozondjou is the Herero word for elephants and this is very fitting, as we are utilising a site close to the base camp of the Elephant Human Relations Aid (EHRA). The camp will not only benefit EHRA financially, but a portion of the income also goes to local farmers in the area.
Arrival at camp from 14h00 onwards (no lunch is served on this day). Time to check-in and acclimatise. This afternoon embark on a guided tour with a local farmer, who will give you an insight on farming in the area and the challenges they are facing in their daily lives by farming with free-roaming wildlife around. We then visit a village school and end of the afternoon with a short walk and sundowners before returning to camp for dinner and overnight.
Today embark on a 1/2 day nature drive in the Ugab river and surrounding area. Here the guests join the EHRA team in their day to day patrol work searching for desert elephants and studying their behaviour. The drive is offered in either a closed or open game drive 4 x 4 vehicle (weather-dependant) and follows the tracks of the elephants usually in the dry river bed. This is also a good opportunity to encounter normal plains game like zebra, kudu, oryx, springbock, ostrich and giraffe. A tasteful cold picnic lunch will be served on this excursion or upon return in depending on how far the travels take you today.
Departure after breakfast.
