Glamping in Namibia?
Wait Until You See This
Glamping is a popular new trend in modern travel, where you can experience the raw beauty of the natural world while still holding onto the creature comforts of staying in a high-end hotel.
The term glamping is a hybrid of “camping” and “glamour” — aka, luxury camping.
Plush beds, tasteful décor, elegant lighting, access to hot water and private bathrooms, prepared meals and drinks, and more are all part of the glamping experience. You’ll also often find power for your phone or laptop, as well as access to Wi-Fi.
When applied to an African safari with Namibia Tracks and Trails, glamping provides a comfortable way for anyone to engage with nature. We love traditional camping, but it can be hard for people with health conditions or physical limitations, or for anyone who just isn’t a huge fan of roughing it.
Glamping is also a fantastic option for fans of traditional camping who just feel like an upgrade every once in a while. Glamping makes camping more accessible, so anyone who wants to can enjoy the health benefits of escaping into the wild: fresh air, relaxation, stress relief, sunshine, exercise, and more. Glamping has become a household term in recent years as its popularity has grown.
These days, you can find glamping options in all corners of the world — even in the furthest reaches of the great outdoors. That includes our home of Namibia.
Glamping with Namibia Tracks & Trails
Namibia is an accessible and safe place to explore many of southern Africa’s notable treasures. English and German are widely spoken here, making getting around easy for visitors from the European continent, the UK, and beyond.
But the real reason to visit Namibia is its natural beauty and its wildlife. Namibia is made up of some of the most stunning landscapes in the entire world. Towering red sand dunes, fields of golden grasses, a cutting coastline along the Atlantic, salt pans that extend as far as the eye can see, and more make for a dynamic contribution to Sub-Saharan Africa.
Of course, the landscapes alone are worth a visit, but what inhabits those landscapes make Namibia a true bucket list destination. Namibia’s wildlife population is immense and diverse.
Over 200 species of land mammals are native here, and they include all the African icons. In Namibia, you’ll find African bush elephants, zebras, lions, rhinos, and more. For birdwatchers, Namibia is a treasure trove, hosting more than 650 unique avian species — including the ostrich. With Namibia Tracks & Trails’ glamping packages, you can experience our country’s wildlife and glorious landscapes in luxurious comfort and safety. Let’s take a closer look at our 3 glamping sites and the astounding amenities, luxurious settings and unbelievable landscapes that await.
The Desert Hills Glamping camp
The Desert Hills Glamping camp
At our Desert Hills Glamping Camp, guests enjoy private, luxury hotel quality “tents” with full-size beds, electricity, en-suite bathrooms, and a private deck overlooking an isolated valley.
A tented dining area offers gourmet meals and is host to a fully-stocked bar and lounge. There are multiple other places to relax and take in the fresh air of the Namibian outdoors, from a fire pit to an in-ground swimming pool.
And you can enjoy cellphone coverage throughout the camp. The camp sits on the edge of Sossusvlei, a salt and clay plan which is our country’s most popular attraction. Its unreal beauty has made it one of the most photographed landscapes in Sub-Saharan Africa. Wildlife in the Sossusvlei include hyena, Cape foxes, ostriches, and springboks.
A stay at the Desert Hills Glamping Camp includes the opportunity to take tours into Sossusvlei, so you can witness its offerings with your own eyes.
Malansrus Tented Camp
Malansrus Tented Camp
Beautifully appointed with stylish couches, lighting, tables, beds, and other high-end furnishings, the Malansrus Tented Camp is an oasis of relaxation and reflection, as well as a basecamp for exploration and adventure.
Each private accommodation is over 40 square meters and includes an en-suite bathroom, comfortable beds, electricity, and a private deck with chairs where you can enjoy a morning coffee, an afternoon tea, or nightcap.
Our main lounge area includes a well-stocked bar, Wi-Fi, and a dining room serving culinary delights designed by our chefs.
A central fire pit is the place to sit back and take in the wide expanse of a Namibian night sky. A waterhole nearby offers a chance to see wildlife of the African plains, including wildebeest, oryx, and zebra.
When you stay with us at Malansrus, you’ll be able to visit Twyfelfontein, an ancient site which is home to engravings made by people who’ve inhabited this place for over 6,000 years. On a tour of the area surrounding the camp, you’ll also have the chance to come face to face with elephants, lions, giraffe, rhinos and more.
Ozondjou Trails Tented Camp
Ozondjou Trails Tented Camp
Sitting on the edge of Namibia’s Ugab River is our Ozondjou Trails Tented Camp. Ozondjou is the local word for “elephant,” so you can expect to see many of these gorgeous giants in the surrounding area.
A stay at Ozondjou includes a day-trip into the desert to track free-roaming elephants and see them first-hand, as well as zebra, giraffe, ostrich, oryx, springbok, and more species of local wildlife.
The only way to access this camp is in a 4×4, but that doesn’t mean you won’t find all the amenities you’d expect back in civilization. Guests enjoy private twin rooms with modern beds and en-suite bathrooms.
Meals are served in our elegant dining tent, which also includes a lounge area where guests can enjoy an after-dinner beverage. Nights are capped off in tranquility around a fire pit with a view overlooking the river.
As a bonus perk of your stay, a portion of income from this camp supports both local farmers and Elephant Human Relations Aid, a group that works to minimize conflict between the desert-adapted elephants and local people in this region.
